Beth the Chef
Back in 1984, Beth Dolan and her father David converted his old sugarhouse, into Joseph's Spaghetti Shed along the shores of the Saco river in Bartlett, NH.

in  After graduating from Kendall College School of Culinary Arts, Shawn Smith trained and studied at Chicago's finest restaurants and hotels. Upon his arrival in Vail in 1997, Shawn became the Head Pastry Chef at The Lodge at Vail. In addition to his phenomenal wedding cake creations, Shawn bakes many of the desserts you'll enjoy at restaurants throughout the Vail Valley and makes outstanding gelato and sorbet that is distributed to restaurants throughout Colorado, New Mexico and Texas.

Even sweeter than his delicious desserts are Shawn's wife Allana, son Matthew and daughtersNina and Addison. This happy team is what inspires Shawn to ensure that every item that comes out of the Mountain Flour kitchen puts an enormous smile on your face.

The Sugarmaker Bakery has been baking ere at Joseph's.  To my delight, my wedding cakes have quickly become the first choice of many brides (and grooms!) to be.

I also bake other specialty cakes...

  • birthday
  • baby shower
  • retirement

and any other occation you can think of, as well as desserts to order.

I am very interested in starting to cater open houses and parties with my baked goods too! During the holidays I am particularly busy making homemade pies and have even won the local apple pie contest a number of times!  If you are interested in ordering or want to pass my name on to someone you know, please pick up a business card in the entry.  Also, check out our display fridge for goodies you can take home now!

Another great thing happened for us this Spring.  Joseph's was featured in Fortune Magazine!!!  The magazine does a column called "Eat At Shrib's."  The author, David Shribman, had eaten in the restaurant and wanted to let others know about us!  Our local Conway Daily Sun also did a super write-up following our appearance in the magazine.  Pretty Great!! More recently we got quite a mention in WINTER (ski NH magazine) in an article about dining out in ski country and The Mountain Ear did an awesome write-up on my Boston Red Sox pies! (You can see the articles very proudly framed in the entrance way!)
